What an amazing fun filled week! We started and ended with bats. We learned bats are mammals (that means the babies stay in their mommy's belly and mommy's give their babies milk) and they are nocturnal (they do all their flying at night). Some bats eat fruit, bugs, and even drink blood!

Days 13 - 17 and next weeks homework
We celebrated John Chapman's birthday by making a magnet, eating apples with Nutella and Apple butter, learning the parts of an apple, and the cycle of an apple. Did you know an apple is first a flower (apple blossom) before it becomes an apple?
Also, this was our first week we made sentences! Plus, we now know enough words to read some of our books!!
Magic is being made and I love it!
I'm ready for October...are you?

Days 8 - 12 and next weeks homework
What a fantastic week!
I began this week by introducing them their first letter... the letter "Mm". The letter "Mm" makes the mmmmm (rub your belly) sound.
I also introduced them to their first 2 words (the & my).
On Thursday and Friday, we celebrated Elephant Appreciation Day.
Here are just some of the things they learned about elephants:

Days 3 - 7
What a great week! I did the majority of the assessments so I am hoping to meet with all the parents before Open House on the 25th. The KinderKids began to understand the importance of following directions (especially in a fire drill), we discussed what good and bad choices are after reading "No David!", we learned to share during center time, and sang lots of songs! Next week is going be a doozy!! We will begin with our first letter, "Mm", and we will learn our first 2 words!!

First Day of Kindergarten Frame!
It's complete! My munchkin is modeling how great it looks!
Usually on the first day of school, I have all the Kinder Kids take their first photo with some books in the background or the calendar behind them and the mojority of the time those things are cut out or blocked off some how. So I decided to make a frame they will be able to hold!
Last June, on the last day of school, my coworker was throwing away some wooden panels and I immediately thought of making a frame!
So, with some Gorilla glue, paint, a nice glitter finish, and some cut out letters, I made a light weight and fun frame!
Summer projects and purchases
July and August are really important months for me to prepare as much as I can for my future Kinder Kids. I find lots of clever ideas during the school year, bookmark them, and revisit them during the summer months.

BACK TO SCHOOL!
Am I the only one excited about the new school year? I think so! I am buying all the supplies, making new centers, and making the "First Day of School" frame!
I want to begin the school year by using this blog at least on a weekly basis, from the construction of the classroom all the way to their glorious graduation. Perhaps it can be a summary of all the events that occurred during the week.
All posts will have my Kinder Kids faces blurred or have a black line over their eyes. I am hoping that the insight into our classroom will help my parents understand when their Kinder Kids say "we were playing today" or "nothing". :o)

"March comes in like a lion and out like a lamb"
Prior to the month of March, we made predictions if whether March will come in like a lion and out like a lamb or vice versa and also if we will have more lion or lamb days.
Lion days are cold and windy and
Lamb day are calm and warm.
After we made our predictions, we made a calendar and then made lions with fruit loop cereal and lambs with cotton balls!

One Fish - Two Fish - Red Fish - Blue Fish!
To continue with our Dr Seuss theme, we read "One Fish, Two Fish, Red Fish, Blue Fish." We first made 4 different patterns of fish. Then we used the Goldfish Colors to graph the fish that are in our little container. Afterwards, we tallied our results. And lastly we ate all our fish (they really enjoyed that part)!

Look at their new writing pieces!
So it is my first day back since my fall and my Kinder Kids, once again, astonished me!
They are learning to use descriptive words as well as verbs! I only wrote two words on the board (kite and flying) and they did the rest by looking in their Word Buddy and searching around the room!

Graphic Novels/Comic Books for kids!
All children enjoy reading! But what we have problems with is finding books that they love to read. Graphic novels are like comic books and many children do enjoy these novels. We have read We Are In A Book by Mo Willems and every single child LOVED it. So here is the link to help you find more graphic novels for their age level! Click ME!
